Community Shares
Community Shares are a form of crowdfunding, where the community buys shares in a society.

Community shares are a fundraising initiative to build stronger, more vibrant and independent communities often used to save vital services and amenities such as community facilities, pubs, shops. Community shares can fund new organisations, such as financing renewable energy schemes and support local food growing projects.
The community invests by purchasing shares in the business. This comes with democratic decisions = one member, one vote. Return on investments are limited to ensure community benefit over financial gain. Investment can be as little as £50. 92% of these businesses still trading 5 years later (compared to 72% for co-ops & 42% for private companies)
