Media Literacy – Rhondda Cynon Taff & OFCOM

Are you concerned about online information? Want to be a savvy online user?

Media Literacy – Rhondda Cynon Taff & OFCOM
Cwmpas is implementing a three-year Media Literacy Programme in Rhondda Cynon Taff (RCT)
The programme’s focus was developed from a nine-month pilot in RCT, which identified through research that “finding and evaluating information” and “communicating with others” were the main areas where support was needed among local residents. The primary demographics identified as needing the most assistance include people not engaged in education or employment and older adults and individuals with accessibility requirements .

The Media Literacy Programme for RCT provides resources for individuals seeking to improve their online navigation skills, explore employment opportunities, or gain better awareness of misinformation and strategies to address it.

The Stats:

  • 73% of people in Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) question the accuracy of online facts.

  • 45% want to learn how to create and share content responsibly.

This program will:

  • Teach citizens how to spot fake news and misinformation

  • Empower people to create and share content responsibly

  • Collaborate with local organisations such as  Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council, YEPS , Coleg Y Cymoed and Age Connect Morgannwg to reach a wide range of people.
