Statement from Cwmpas – Economic Advisory Group for Wales
Welsh Secretary Jo Stevens announced a new economic advisory group bringing together business, government and academia as an opportunity to “rekindle Wales’s proud industrial roots”. Here’s Cwmpas’s response.
We welcome the Welsh Secretary’s intent to partner with a full range of businesses in Wales, and the ambition of her new economic advisory group to “harness Wales’s best talent, ambition and creativity”.
However, a whole section of Wales’s best talent – our dynamic, innovative social enterprise sector, which is busy creating a fairer, greener economy, regenerating communities, and growing the Welsh economy – won’t be represented on the advisory group as it stands.
We’d love to help UK Labour to fulfil its manifesto commitments around supporting diverse business models and doubling the size of the co-operative sector, and we can share examples of the Welsh businesses which are solving society’s biggest challenges and putting money in people’s pockets.
Secretary of State, Cwmpas stands ready to work with you and partners to shape the priorities for an economy in Wales that works better for everyone.
